red roses

I am not a fan of red roses. I used to like them because we always had roses growing in our yard and all the roses you grow in your garden smell good and are pretty. But the roses that come into the florist?

First off, I've never been a huge fan of buds and we only get buds. I never picked buds off the rose bushes we owned. I would only pick roses that had already bloomed a little so it already looked like a pretty flower.

Second, every single person in the world buys red roses for their girlfriend for valentines, anniversary, birthday, anything. I'm not sure if people really WANT red roses or if the people buying roses aren't creative. I'm going to make sure the person I date/marry knows I don't like red roses. Why would anyone want a gift that is the same as everyone else? My mother's favorite flower is a sunflower. My dad gets her sunflowers. Although usually, he just gets flowers out of the yard. They smell.

Which bring me to my third point. The flowers are kinda depressing because they don't smell. They are bred for long life (so we can hold them in the florist for a week if need be and they stay fresh. They still ARE fresh flowers because they've been bred to be. Plus, none of us actually know how long each and every flower has been out on the shelf. We get paid min. wage and only work part time. The policy is everything is fresh, everything in the cooler has been made up today, yesterday at the earliest and everything is guaranteed five days. Most people don't ask about the guarantee though.

Red roses come with baby's breath and if there is anything I don't like more than red roses. It's baby's breath. I'm more picky about flowers then I ever realized.
