Dear Olympic Commentators,

SHUT THE FUCK UP.

This has always been my complaint about NBC's Olympic Coverage. Do i know anything about most of the sports in either Winter or Summer Olympics? No. Not at all. Do I care? No, not at all. I don't mind between programs or between races if they give me athlete information or explain bits of the sport but in the middle of the program or race please turn your microphone off because I hate you.

I don't want your exclamations when someone takes a fall. I don't want to hear about how devastating this moment is for the athlete or how they are so much better.

THEY ARE AT THE FUCKING OLYMPICS. Whether they win gold or come in dead last, THEY QUALIFIED FOR THE OLYMPICS.

These athletes are some of the best in the world. Sure, I want them to all do their absolute best because it's more interesting for me, but the falls and the mistakes are part of the games. You can't be perfect every time. No matter how much you have practiced. Things happen. Judges don't score in your favor. The snow is slushy. Someone drops a baton. Another athletes knocks you out of the race. Someone else has an unbelievably and unexpected moment of brilliance. These things are all part of the sports.

Each athlete has the pressure of their entire country. The media scrutinizes. They replay mistakes made four years ago if the athlete is a returner. Or they say the athlete is nervous and maybe they aren't prepared for this level. They are prepared! They go to nationals. They go to worlds. The Olympics are something else entirely. Do you watch figure skating world championships every year? Not likely, probably you only watch the Olympics. They've risen to the occasion by showing up.

So NBC commentators. Shut up and let me enjoy the races. Stop criticizing. You aren't competing, you aren't dealing with all the variables the athletes are. I want to enjoy it without your negativity. I hated it during the summer Olympics. I hate it during the Winter Olympics. I wish there was a no commentary option. They make me want to sock em in the face.
